Neal Shanks, BSc Economics and Business 2:1, 1998; MSc Finance 2000
"My career in Banking has been a natural progression from my degree / masters at Queen's, with the core skills and general understanding of economics and finance gained through my time at Queen's proving invaluable.
I continue to use the skills and knowledge gained from my degree and masters programmes, applying core concepts and methodologies from my degree / masters at Queen's in my Banking role on a daily basis.
I believe my main achievement has been securing 3 promotions since starting in Ulster Bank in 2007, a 4 year period in which Banking and career progression in Banking has been challenging.
My main piece of advice in an increasingly challenging labour market for new graduates would be to identify employment areas of interest and seek out opportunities available through Queen's for work experience and professional development in these areas.
My time at Queen's was a great experience, both in preparing me for a future Banking career and as a personal experience.
