Economics has a long history at the University and many of those in key positions in business, government and the voluntary sector in Northern Ireland have a degree in Economics from Queen’s University. We provide programmes which are rigorous and up-to-date and prepare students for graduate study and careers in areas such as management, consultancy, financial services, teaching and public service.
At Queen’s you can study Economics in a variety of ways and in conjunction with a number of other subjects. The Single and Major Honours in Economics are intended to provide a rigorous training for students wishing to specialise in Economics and develop strong quantitative skills. The Single Honours in Business Economics is designed to provide rigorous analytical skills but has more flexibility in terms of quantitative content. Economics may be studied in conjunction with another subject such as Accounting, Finance, Management or a modern language.
A degree in Politics, Philosophy and Economics (PPE) is available through the School of Politics, International Studies and Philosophy.
All the degree programmes are normally of three years duration and there is the opportunity for students to avail themselves of summer and year-long placements with a variety of organisations including HM Treasury, Google Ireland, KPMG and PwC.
