"Bull markets are born on pessimism, grow on skepticism, mature on optimism, and die on euphoria. The time of maximum pessimism is the best time to buy, and the time of maximum optimism is the best time to sell"- Sir John Templeton.
Queens University Management School is delighted to introduce a financial trading club in conjunction with the new First Derivatives Trading Room in Riddel Hall. Three members of staff with trading interests and experience, Barry Quinn, Fotios Papailias and Brendan McDonald have created this new club to engage students with the practical reality of trading.
Students will experience a simulation of real-world trading while demonstrating their abilities to analyse, strategise and make portfolio decisions. They will gain an invaluable glimpse into the real world of the capital markets as well as true insight into themselves and their suitability to a finance career.
The club will be open to all Queen's University Management School students at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Activities will include a virtual trading game and construction and management of a Student Managed Fund.
The Trading Club will meet fortnightly on Wednesday afternoons starting in the second semester (The date and time of the first meeting will be confirmed once all members are registered).
Classroom learning is the core to your education but in the financial world we learn best by doing. In a simulation of real-world market conditions club members will see how their decisions will have real consequence for their trading book's return. In this way each student will get a clear grasp of their skills and abilities in an investment career.
You and your fellow student participants are tomorrows finance leaders. After taking part in the trading club, you will hit the ground running, thanks to everything you've learned and experienced, and all the influential people you've met.
Membership is now closed!
