Research Interests
Developing science-based strategies for the sustainable management of the Lough Foyle native oyster (Ostrea edulis) fishery, in collaboration with the Lough's Agency and oyster fishers. The Lough Foyle O. edulis fishery is one of the few remaining productive wild native oyster fisheries in Europe. This research will incorporate field and laboratory-based approaches to investigate the factors influencing reproduction, recruitment and growth of O. edulis both in terms of maintaining/ increasing yeilds and within the context of the Native Oyster Species Action Plan (NOSAP).
