Film Studies is equipped with a range of still and moving cameras including: 16mm, Super-8, Mini-DV, HDV/HD (Sony A1-E, JVC PROHD 200, Sony EX3 XDCAM) and Digital SLR stills cameras (Canon EOS 7D/5D Mrk11). The department is also equipped with Apple iMac editing suites running Final Cut Pro Studio 2, and a range of sound, lighting kits and grip gear, suitable for short film and documentary production. There is also a post production audio suite running Protools HD.
Student work is screened in the newly refurbished Queen’s Film Theatre as are undergraduate and postgraduate course films. Many of our students play an active role in the running of the QFT.
There is an extensive and expanding library collection of films on VHS and DVD with viewing facilities in the library and a book and periodical collection related to film and lens-based media.
We work closely with Belfast Exposed (one of Ireland’s leading photography galleries) who provide expert tuition and production facilities for our photography modules.
Through the CETL Creative Arts Programme, we are now running an artists-in-residence scheme with creative professionals in film, photography, drama and music providing tuition and mentoring for Queen’s students.
