Prospective Students

The department offers courses in both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.  Students are provided an historical, critical and practice-based framework for studying the cinema, and the visual arts.

Film Studies is equipped with a range of still and moving image cameras (16mm, XDCAM, DSLR) and editing suites for use by students.  Specialist tuition is available from film professionals to support student projects.

We work closely with the Queen's Film Theatre, Northern Ireland's premier art house cinema, and both class screenings and student work are presented at the QFT under normal exhibition conditions.

Belfast, Northern Ireland's capital city, has a lively arts scene with an international festival, film festival and range of galleries and venues.  Belfast has also become the base for growing numbers of television, radio and independent film production companies.

We also work closely with a wide range of creative professionals and encourage students to exhibit their work for the broadest possible public.  Film Studies provides an excellent background for work in the film, television and media industries.  It also offers academic and academic related career possibilities.

There are currently around 2000 full-time and part-time international students enrolled in undergraduate and postgraduate courses at Queen's University and its Film and Visual Studies programmes continues to attract many students from all over the world.
