Research Interests:

My research interests tend to concentrate on the analysis of cinematic forms and structures, especially in relation to modernism, and European film and visual culture. I currently co-edit the ‘Cinema Aesthetics’ series (Manchester University Press) with Sam Rohdie, and recently co-edited a special themed issue of Screening the Past on cinema and photography. 

 

Current Work: 

I am completing a monograph on film aesthetics (Questioning the Frame), and writing some essays on documentary film-makers whose work is especially influenced by an interest in – and experience of – other visual arts.
