Gary D. Rhodes, Ph.D., is a filmmaker and film historian.  The bulk of his film practice has been in the area of documentary film, including such films as Lugosi: Hollywood's Dracula (1997) and Banned in Oklahoma (2005). Most of his work in film history has concentrated on pre-1950 Hollywood.  His current publications include Emerald Illusions: The Irish in Early American Cinema (IAP, 2011) and The Perils of Moviegoing in America: 1896-1950 (Continuum, 2011).  
For over two decades, Rhodes has written for a variety of academic film journals, film magazines, and other forums.  Currently he is working on a book on the birth of the American horror film to 1915.  Other current research includes F. W. Murnau, early film audiences in America, and the classic horror film.
