Facilities

The facilities used by Music and Sonic Arts are among the best in the British Isles; certain facilities within the School (such as the Sonic Laboratory) are unique in the world!  The School has two dedicated performance spaces: the Harty Room in the Music building, characterized by its wonderful natural acoustic, and the Sonic Laboratory at SARC which has variable acoustics and facilities for 3D sound projection.

See the SARC podcast on the audio and video page.

The School has a wide range of  instruments, including organs, harpsichords, a fortepiano and other early keyboard instruments. There are also some less common orchestral instruments.

There are ten studios in the School equipped with up-to-date recording, and computer facilities.

The collection of music in the main library is supplemented by an additional collection of frequently used material in the department. CDs and records are also kept in the Music building, where there is equipment for listening. Students have access to dedicated computer suites in each building within the School and access to compting facilities across the campus.
