Potential Careers

Studying music at degree level opens the door to many careers; statistics show that employment prospects for music graduates are good.  Part of the reason for this is the transferable skills gained in studying music and many find their application both inside and outside the music industry.  Strengthening your ability to listen critically, evaluate, research, appreciate the value of context, write, analyse, apply the latest technology, compose, present and perform, will certainly enhance your employment profile.

Previous graduates from the School have gone onto become professional composers, performers, teachers, administrators, broadcasters, academics, music therapists, civil servants, ministers of religion, librarians and even landscape architects!

Graduates in Music Technology may find employment in recording studios and other areas of the music business.  Besides the established areas of making music for radio and television, there is enormous growth and potential in new “creative industries” in making audio content for computer software, web sites, and other electronic media.  Engineers are also needed for computer systems and equipment to handle audio data.  Graduates of our Masters degree in Music Technology have found employment in software businesses and in education and graduates of the BSc degree have had similar success in this field.
