Music and Sonic Arts provides one of the most wide-ranging set of degree programmes in music and music technology available in the UK and Ireland. World-leading experts in fields as diverse as performance, composition, musicology, sound design, signal processing, acoustics and interaction design deliver unique undergraduate programmes supported by excellent facilities across the School.
The School offers two single honours pathways (Bachelor of Music and BSc Music Technology and Sonic Arts) and contributes modules to the BA (Joint Honours Ethnomusicology and Music, Minor Honours with other subjects). Both the BMus and BSc courses combine a solid foundation in the subject with opportunities for specialism in areas such as performance, composition, musicology and interaction design.
We have recently expanded our subject areas to include Traditional Irish Music and our Performance programme has undergone a major expansion which includes opportunities for performance in areas such as jazz, popular and experimental music. There are numerous ensembles in the School, including two orchestras, big band, improvisation and experimental ensemble, two choirs, brass band, and an Irish traditional ensemble.
The School also has an exchange programme with the University of Michigan and a new Erasmus link with the Royal College of Music in Stockholm, where students will have the opportunity to spend a semester during their second year.
