Research Interests
My research tends to adopt interdisciplinary approaches to the study of film. I am currently completing a monograph on the relations between documentary and the visual arts. I am also interested in film aesthetics more generally, and I have published some essays on issues such as framing, the shot, stillness, silence, and theatricality; I also co-edit the Cinema Aesthetics series (Manchester University Press). I publish occasionally on aspects of Irish film, visual culture, and contemporary literature, and I am involved in co-ordinating the 'Cities of Memory' project at QUB: http://citiesofmemory.org/
