Dr Katrina Lloyd is a Lecturer in the School of Education. She has a DPhil in Developmental Psychology and her areas of research expertise include developing and running large-scale surveys of children and young people (including online surveys in schools), analysis of secondary datasets in the Social Sciences, and the emotional health and well-being of children and young people. Along with ARK colleagues from the School of Sociology, Social Policy and Social Work at Queen’s she runs Kids’ Life and Times, which is an annual online survey of Primary 7 children in Northern Ireland.
Katrina is Coordinator of the Improving Children’s Lives Special Interest Group on Children's Well-being and Quality of Life and is a member of the Centre for Effective Education (CEE) and the Centre for Children’s Rights (CCR) based within the School of Education.
She is currently involved in the following projects:
Longitudinal Survey of Children’s health, wellbeing and educational outcomes (with Professor Paul Connolly, Professor Frank Kee (Centre of Excellence in Public Health) and Dr Laura Dunne) This research project is based within CEE and involves following up a cohort of Year 8 pupils in a random sample of schools from across Northern Ireland.
Developing a Children’s Right’s Questionnaire (CRQ) (with Ms Lesley Emerson and Dr Elizabeth Welty) This research project is based within CCR and involves designing a CRQ in conjunction with a group of primary school children and piloting the measure in the 2013 Kids’ Life and Times survey.
Legal Needs of Children and Young People (with Professor Laura Lundy, Ms Lesley Emerson and Dr Karen Orr) This research project is based within CCR and involves using a mixed-method, child-rights based approach, to engage with children and young people in order to gather their views and input on the legal needs of children in Northern Ireland. This project is being carried out on behalf of the Department of Justice.
Kids’ Life and Times (KLT) survey (with Dr Paula Devine and Dr Dirk Schubotz from ARK) This is an annual online survey of Primary 7 children in schools across Northern Ireland. The aim is to give children a voice on issues that affect their lives.
