What is the closing date for applications?
The official closing date for undergraduate courses is 29 August 2008. Where there are a limited number of places available, we will make offers to suitable candidates on a first come first served basis.  Once a course is full, we will hold a waiting list, where appropriate.  We will consider applications for courses which have places available until a few days before the start of term.

What qualifications do I need to apply?
If you are under the age of 21 on 1 June of the year of entry you must satisfy the general University entrance requirements for admission to undergraduate courses.

If you are 21 years of age or over on 1 June of the year of entry you will be considered as a mature applicant and you are not required to meet the specific entry requirements for those entering directly from secondary education into full-time programmes of study (usually A’ Levels).  However, you are expected to have a sound basic education and to provide evidence of study at an appropriate level.  You may be required to attend for interview. 

Certificate
Specific entrance requirements for our undergraduate certificates and the part-time degree are normally a minimum of 5 GCSE passes at Grade C or better, including English.  Other qualifications may be deemed equivalent.  Third level qualifications such as HNC/HND DipHE etc, may be considered for exemptions to the part-time degree.

Diploma
For direct entry into an undergraduate diploma, applicants will be expected to have achieved A Level or equivalent, or to have successfully completed a level 1 University Certificate.
For direct entry into an undergraduate advanced diploma, applicants will be expected to have achieved A Level or equivalent, or to have successfully completed a level 2 University Diploma.

Individual certificates and diplomas may require more specific qualifications or experience.  Details are included on specific course pages.

Will my application be acknowledged?
Applications to the Part-time Degree will normally be acknowledged in due course. 
Applications to certificates and diplomas will normally be acknowledged within two weeks, although this may take longer during July.

On-time applicants will normally be informed during July/August.

How do I find out about grants/fees?
Fees
The fees for students taking the Part-time Degree are based on the number of modules taken in each year.  In 2007/08 the fee for a Part-time Degree module was £205, although there will be a slight increase for 2008/09.
The fees for certificates and diplomas vary.  Details of each course’s fees may be found on the specific course page.

Fee waivers
There is a package of support available via your Education and Library Board.  In 2007/08 it comprised a grant for fees and a small grant of £250 towards course costs.
Application packs will be available from your Education and Library Board or Department for Employment and Learning from August each year.

Support Funds

Students who are experiencing severe hardships during their course of study and who meet the credit point criteria and residence criteria may be assisted by the Support Fund. Disabled Students Allowance

Queen’s Women’s Graduates Awards
The Queen’s Women Graduates Association offers a limited number of small scholarships each year to women over 25 who are on low income and are attending or about to enrol in a first course at Queen’s. Details are available from the Quality Assurance Office (Tel: 028 9097 3005)
