Information for Postgraduate Dissertation & Doctoral Theses Students
The School of Education Ethics Committee has developed a Proforma to be completed by all students before undertaking such research. When completed, the form should be submitted by your supervisor to the Ethics Secretary (firstname.lastname@example.org), for approval by the Committee.
Please note the following:
Please download the form and guidance notes here
and submit the completed Application Form and Consent Form(s) to your supervisor who will forward to the Ethics Secretary.
Students should note the cut-off dates for submission of completed forms to the Committee (2012/13: 19th October; 7th December; 15th February; and 3rd May). Forms received after these dates will be held until the next submission deadline.
Students will be notified of the outcome via their Queen’s email account (we aim to have the outcomes back within four weeks of the deadline, except in special circumstances when further advice is needed. Please note that if you submit your form in the December deadline it is likely that you will hear from us in early January).
It is the student’s responsibility to address any ethical issues, complete the form, sign it and submit an electronic copy including copies of any attachments, to their supervisor. The Request for Ethical Review will be made by the supervisor, copying the student into correspondence to demonstrate their agreement with the submission.
Students should be aware that some research requires Ethical Approval from outside agencies. Students are advised to discuss this procedure with their supervisor(s).
Research may only commence after it has been approved by the School of Education’s Ethics Committee. Please note that if your research has not received formal approval from the Ethics Committee it will not normally be possible for the School of Education to accept and process it for your award.
Please note that it is the responsibility of the supervisor to add any research projects involving human participants, material or data to the University’s Human Subjects Database for insurance purposes. (The Human Subjects Database is accessible through QOL under ‘My Research’.)
