Dr Sarah Allen is Senior Research Fellow at the NFER at Queen’s Centre for Educational Research and currently oversees the day to day activities of the Centre. Sarah has a degree and PhD in Psychology and since obtaining her PhD in 2001, she has worked in the area of parenting, early child development, education and evaluation. She has extensive experience of quantitative and qualitative methods with both children and adults. In particular her expertise lies in quantitative methods including the use of psychometric questionnaires and the developmental assessment of young children. Sarah is experienced in designing and conducting evaluations of complex social interventions including the use of the randomised controlled trial (RCT) design. She has widely used multivariate statistics. She is Principal Investigator of two large-scale longitudinal RCTs including evaluations of an All-Ireland parenting programme and a pupil mentoring scheme that operates throughout Northern Ireland. In addition to managing and overseeing various research projects, Sarah’s role at the NFER at Queen’s also includes developing research proposals and securing funding.
