A year in the life of a PGCE student - September

I spent my placement in Crawfordsburn Primary School, where I also spent my 6th form work experience week. I was placed with a p.6 class for the majority of the time. The first day was mainly focused on observing the children and the way the teacher delivered her lessons. I also noted the way in which she managed class behaviour. The rest of the first week I taught one French lesson per day with games, music and fun worksheets. The second week I did the same but in Spanish. I was also given the opportunity to work with small groups, helping the weaker children with their numeracy and literacy skills. The general positive atmosphere in the school and the enthusiasm of the children made my placement a very inspiring experience.

The induction week of the P.G.C.E was packed with workshops ranging from a general layout of what is to be expected of us during the year to a lesson on how to create podcasts for our students. It was good to meet some of the students enrolled from different subjects and to be taught from a wide variety of lecturers.
