Option Information :
The PGCHET is primarily aimed at new academic staff members on probation, and provides a formal qualification in teaching and learning in higher education. While the course is not at present mandatory for probationary staff, many Heads of School recommend it to new lecturers. Lecturers with experience may also apply. The course is accredited by the Higher Education Academy (HEA), which means that PGCHET graduates will automatically become eligible for HEA membership, without filling out detailed documentation or providing further evidence of teaching experience.
The course consists of two modules, which can be taken over one academic year. Typically, two groups take the course each academic year. Each group attends the course for one full week in September, one full week in January. Successful completion of the course normally requires full attendance.
If you wish to apply for the PGCHET, please email k.gaw@qub.ac.ukfor an application form this should be returned to the PGCHET Secretary, School of Education, 20 College Green, Belfast BT7 1LN. There are 2 intakes for this course 1 in September and 1 in January. If you have any preference concerning which of the two groups you would like to join, please indicate this on your application form. We cannot guarantee that you will be placed in the group of your choice. Applicants will be notified whether they have been offered a place in early July, and further details of the course will be informed at that time.
