Students holding DEL or AHRCstudentships should check on the amount of money available to fund various research activities such as visits to libraries, photocopying, photography and microfilm, and attendance and participation at conferences. It is important that you should feel free to use this money to advance your research.
In addition there are six distinct, but limited funds available from Academic Council i.e. the William Betty MacQuitty, Alan Graham Fund, Emily Sarah Montgomery, Sir Thomas Dixon, First Trust, and QUB Alumni Fund Travel Scholarships) and two bodies of funding from the Faculty of Humanities e.g. The Helena Wallace fund and the McNeill Menary Travel Group Bursaries. A list of these funds, open to application by all postgraduate students in good standing, will be made available through Academic Council and the AHSS Dean's Office. There are funds available to finance research trips not only locally but to the rest of the UK, the Republic of Ireland, North America, continental Europe and further afield.
Note also an external funding source open to Queen's postgraduates: British Association for Irish Studies (BAIS) Postgraduate Bursaries Scheme: www.bais.org.uk. These awards for travel and research range from £500 to £1000.
