Research Interests

I am interested in all aspects of the English Renaissance in its own time and beyond, having written on master-servant relationships, monsters and Shakespeare on film. I have also edited the works of Christopher Marlowe. Following my recent monograph, Shakespeare and World Cinema (Cambridge University Press, 2012), I  co-authored Great Shakespeareans: Welles, Kozintsev, Kurosawa, Zeffirelli (Continuum, 2013) with Courtney Lehmann, Marguerite H. Rippy and Ramona Wray.

I am currently working on a project on the social and cultural history of Hamlet on film.

I am happy to supervise doctoral students in the following areas: English Renaissance literature and culture, adaptation and appropriation, Shakespeare on film.

I am Director of the Kenneth Branagh Archive, Chair of Research Committee and Research Director for the School of English.
