Renaissance literature and culture, especially women's writing, Shakespeare in performance, and Shakespeare on screen.

Research Statement

I have recently successfully completed an AHRC funded networks project on 'Memory and Community in Early Modern Britain'.

I am writing a critical study of Shakespeare on television and a literary biography of Elizabeth Cary.

I teach at all levels of the School, including 'Introduction to Renaissance Literature' at Stage 2, and convene 'Shakespeare on Screen' at Stage 3.

At MA level, I teach a module on Women's Writing before 1660. I have enjoyed supervising thirteen funded PhD students to completion and am currently supervising a further four.

In 2006 I won a University Teaching Award and in 2008 I was one of the Queen's nominees for the National Teaching Fellowship Scheme.
