Postgraduate Fees and Funding

The School of History and Anthropology offers funding each year for applicants to our MA and PhD programmes in Ancient, Modern and Irish History; Irish Studies; Social Anthropology and Cognition and Culture. Details of available funding may be found on our School Postgraduate Funding page.

How to Apply

There is no separate application for funding. You may indicate on your application for MA or PhD that you wish to be considered for funding by selecting the option "Do you wish to be considered for funding" tick the "Yes" box.  Students who wish to be considered for Northern Bridge scholarships should at the section which states 'Are you responding to an advert, please give details' should enter "Northern Bridge Partnership - AH13".  Applications are made through the University’s Admissions Office using the online application system. You must submit your MA/PhD application by the published deadline (Monday 26 January 2015) if you wish to be considered for funding.

Important Note
YOU MUST ENSURE THAT YOU ENTER ACCURATELY ALL YOUR UNDERGRADUATE AND, IF RELEVANT, POSTGRADUATE DEGREE RESULTS (with percentages) BEFORE THE CLOSING DATE. Other international qualifications will be assessed. If results are not entered, we will not be able to consider your application for funding. You should aim to submit your application several days in advance of the published closing date to enable time for references to be sought and a decision to be made on your application.

Notification of Funding Outcome

All applications for funding will be ranked in February and everyone will notified in March.

Additional Sources of Funding for US Students

Our School website also contains information on sources of funding specifically for US students as well as obtaining a Stafford Loan. Please note that Queen's is approved by the US Department of Education for participation in the Federal Family Education Loan (FFEL) programme.

Santander Mobility Scholarships 2015/2016

I am delighted to inform you of the launch of this year’s scholarships funded by Santander UK, with the assistance of Grupo Santander to support scholarship and mobility in the context of exchanges between Queen's University and universities within the Santander Universidades Network[1] in UK, Europe and overseas.

Queen’s University Belfast is proud to be a member of the prestigious international Santander Universities network, which brings together almost 1,000 universities, including Spain, Portugal, Latin America and the UK.

This strategic partnership between Queen’s University Belfast and Santander has created a range of opportunities for both staff and students to participate in a range of activities and to encourage exchange and interaction between members of the University and other member universities of the Santander Universities Network.

Application and Process Deadlines

Candidates are invited to apply within their respective Schools by sending a CV and completed application form by email to the relevant Head of School by Monday 14 December 2015.

Applications should be selected at School level by a selection panel, nominated by the Head of School, normally comprising of the Head of School and senior academics, at least one of whom should have responsibility for internationalisation.

School ranking and application materials must be sent to by Friday 8 January 2016.

This is a valuable funding opportunity for Queen’s students, particularly PGT and PGR students, and/or staff interested in international collaborative links with partner institutions in Europe and worldwide.  However, the deadlines are tight and I would greatly appreciate your cooperation in publicising the availability of the awards and in nominating potential recipients.
