Research Topic
Gender Identity Construction through Popular Music amongst Muslim girls in Northern Ireland
The purpose of this research is to explore the multiple negotiation processes inherent in the ways in which teenage Muslim girls in Northern Ireland construct their gender identity through popular music. It revolves around two key issues: How does popular music mediate concepts of sexuality and femininity amongst Muslim girls in Northern Ireland? To what extent do their music listening choices and their participation in music affect who they are, or are expected to be?
