Research Topic:

'The Snare Drum in Northern Ireland'

The PhD research is based on the Snare Drum and the diversity of technique styles found in Northern Ireland. The study aims to shed light on how competitions and political factors affect styles of music, particularly folk music, during times of significant change. The research is based fundamentally on the Parade Band scene in Northern Ireland using marching bands from either side of the community divide as sources of information.
