I grew up in and live in Co. Westmeath, and have worked in news and sports journalism there for the best part of a decade. At present, I work as Sports Editor with the Westmeath Examiner in Mullingar.
In 2004, I graduated from NUI Maynooth with a BA in History and English. The following year, I completed a taught MA in History at NUIM, presenting a thesis on aspects of the Irish Revolution in King's County (Offaly) between 1913 and 1921.
I am currently working towards a PhD as a part-time student.
'The republican activism of Laurence Ginnell, 1916-23'
My PhD research topic is the Irish republican activism of Laurence Ginnell (b. 1852), including his role in the early development of Sinn Féin (post-1916), and his work in the United States and Argentina (1920-23).
My main interests are 19th and 20th century Irish, European and American history.
