Ruth Thorpe

Biographical details:

I graduated from Trinity College Dublin with a BA in History of Art and Architecture and History  (2001).  The topic of the dissertation for my MA in Historic House Studies at the National University of Ireland Maynooth (2011) was ‘Women, architecture and building on Irish landed estates, 1760-1860’. This is the first year of my doctoral research at Queen’s University.

Research topic and interests:

My research interests lie in the social and architectural history of Ireland and the history of consumption in the eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries. The title of my topic is ‘Elite women and material culture in Ireland, 1760-1860’.  This will examine the role of women in creating the material culture of town and country houses and in the consumption of luxury goods.
