Key features of the programme
This topical postgraduate taught programme focuses on some of the most challenging issues facing policy communities at every level of governance in the world today such as modernising government and better law-making. Designed to meet a growing need for postgraduates who can navigate complex issues associated with EU, global, national and regional governance it develops a strong focus on the changing roles of law, governance and government. This LLM programme draws on key research strengths within the School of Law. The teaching team includes staff with extensive professional backgrounds in or around governments, policy and law-making processes. The programme enables students to develop interdisciplinary skills and to specialise in key areas of the growing field of governance to increase their employability. Global in application, the prgoramme provides students with the necessary skill base to pursue or build upon careers in business, NGOs and regulatory authorities. Students will also be equipped for legal careers at national and international levels. The transdisciplinary nature of the programme, coupled with interaction with the research at Queen’s provides students with relevant expertise.
Entrance Requirements
Normally a 2:1 Honours degree or above or equivalent recognised qualification in Law, Social Sciences, Humanities or a cognate discipline.
In line with University Regulations there is a language requirement for applicants whose first language is not English (IELTS 6.5 or approved equivalent.)

The LLM in Law and Governance is designed to prove equally attractive to those transferring from an undergraduate course as well as those building on practical experience in industry or public policy who wish to gain relevant knowledge and develop skills for their future career. Resources within the Law School
Students registered on the LLM will be able to avail of an array of seminars and workshops grounded in governance within the Law School, its Institute of Governance , and policy practitioners. Students have the opportunity of attending, and contributing to, a range of events and international conferences hosted by QUB. The Law School provides postgraduate students with a range of excellent facilities including access to a postgraduate computer room and other important learning resources.
Dissertation
The dissertation is undertaken during June to September. Dissertations are between 15,000 and 20,000 words in length. The exact nature of the dissertation and the selection of appropriate advisors will be taken by the student in consultation with the Programme Coordinator.
