Biography
Norma Dawson was appointed to a lectureship in the Faculty of Law in Queen's in 1976, and became a Senior Lecturer in 1988, and Professor of Law in 1995. She was Head of the Department of Private Law from 1989 to 1994, and Director of the School of Law and Dean of the Faculty of Law from 1994 to 1997. She is a member of the Judicial Studies Board (N.I.). She has been a trustee of the Hamlyn Trust, and a member of the Broadcasting Council for N.I., the Law Reform Advisory Committee for N.I., and the council of the N.I. Medico-Legal Society. She was a member of the Legal Services Review Group which reported in 2006 (Legal Services in Northern Ireland (tSO, 2006)). 

She is the author of books on the law of certification trade marks and the law of business tenancies, and co-author of a book on charities. She has edited or co-edited several essay collections in the fields of legal history and trade mark law, and published numerous papers on trade mark law, property law, and legal history. She was awarded a British Academy Senior Research Fellowship for 2005-6 to enable her to pursue research on legal history. Her current research is in the historical development of cultural property law, and in contemporary trade mark law.

She is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts, and President of the Irish Legal History Society.
