My research interests centre around dense plasmas ; sometimes called warm dense matter. In particular I have been carrying out experiments into X-ray scattering from dense plasmas, with the objective of gaining information about their static and dynamic structures. This has potential benefits in understanding, for example, planetary interiors which are at pressures of millions of atmospheres and temperatures of thousands of degrees. I also have related interests in the X-ray spectroscopy of laser-produced plasmas and their development as X-ray sources for other scientific applications.
