Introduction
Polymers are the fastest growing group of industrial materials with applications stretching across all aspects of modern society. They influence every area of life from the clothes that we wear, to the tools and utensils that we use every day, and the packaging of the food that we eat. They are extremely versatile materials with a range of properties that far exceeds those achievable by any alternatives and every year the number of new materials and their applications increases dramatically.
For industry polymers are extremely challenging materials because of their wide variety of forms, the many different ways that they can be combined to enhance their properties, and the breadth of technologies that may be used to process them. Today’s manufacturing industries therefore require highly trained graduates with very specialised skills.
Most traditional polymer science courses concentrate on the chemistry of the materials, whereas the MSc in Polymer Engineering has been specifically designed to meet the needs of industry. Graduates from the course are highly regarded and employment opportunities are excellent across a very wide range of industries.
