Association of Hispanists of Great Britain and Ireland Annual Conference

Belfast 6 - 8 April 2009

The Association of Hispanists aims to promote scholarly research in Great Britain and Ireland into the study of the languages and cultures of the Hispanic and Lusophone world. The organisation takes an active part in continuing dialogue on these activities with the British and other Governments, and appropriate agencies such as HEFCE, and aims to promote the widest possible awareness of their cultural, educational and vocational importance. The AHGBI co-operates with other organizations, such as the Spanish Embassy, the Instituto Cervantes, Canning House and the Asociación Internacional de Hispanistas, in the achievement of common objectives, and provide a forum for the discussion and elaboration of these aims by members.

The annual conference is a three-day event, organised around the presentation of academic papers in four parallel sessions, with two plenary sessions delivered by invited guest speakers.

This is the second time that the conference has come to Belfast (the first was in 1991), and we are very proud to be able to host such a prestigious and dynamic event.
