Ricki O’Rawe grew up in Omagh, Co. Tyrone before moving to Belfast in 1996. He studied his BA in Hispanic Studies with Scholastic Philosophy in Queen’s, spending a year out in Madrid, and began an MA in Hispanic Studies in 2005 after a sojourn in Barcelona.
He is currently researching his PhD in the School of Languages, Literatures and (Performing) Arts, investigating the unorthodox spiritualities of writer Jorge Luis Borges (1899-1986) and painter Remedios Varo (1908-1963). The project pays particular attention the interest both artists had in mysticism and builds on the metaphysical ideas broached in his MA dissertation, ‘El único espectador de esta calle : Time, Place and Self in Fervor de Buenos Aires by Jorge Luis Borges’.
Ricki is a member of the editorial board of Quest, QUB’s arts and humanities Postgraduate run e-journal. He is also part of the organising committee for an all Ireland Postgraduate Symposium in Spanish and Portuguese Studies to be held at Queen’s University, Belfast on Friday 23rd and Saturday 24th November 2007.
