| Welcome to German Studies
German Studies is no longer open to incoming students. The University management took the decision in spring 2009 to discontinue the degree programme and since September 2009 courses have been on offer only to students who were already enrolled on the programme.
For prospective students interested in learning German while studying at Queen’s, German language tuition is still offered by the Language Centre, which can be accessed here: http://www.qub.ac.uk/directorates/InformationServices/LanguageCentre/
Despite no longer being open to incoming students, German Studies maintains active Erasmus links with the universities of Heidelberg, Salzburg and Leipzig. Courses at Level 3 of the German Studies programme will remain open to Erasmus students on the exchange programmes of these three universities until summer 2013.
German Studies consists of two full-time members of academic staff, Dr Marko Pajevic and Dr Nicola Creighton, and a part-time administrator, Catherine Pollitt. The academic staff remain fully engaged in research and, while German Studies will not make a REF return in 2014, staff continue to be involved in School research and administrative activities. Students currently on the degree programme, whether on the Major, Minor or Joint Pathway, will enjoy the same range and quality of teaching provision as before the announcement of the closure until the last cohort graduates in July 2013.
