Computing
IT skills are key transferable skills for nurses and midwives. Please take advantage of the computing facilities available and use your email, access the Internet and develop word processing, spreadsheet and database skills. You must register to use the facilities and are advised to register at the Centre you will use most frequently and you will need your student card. When you are registered your user ID allows you to log-on to the system, provides you with an allocation of disk space to store information in files and a printer allocation enabling you to print files (30 free pages). Cards are available to buy from the libraries to enable you to print additional pages.
Students can also access module resources via Queen’s Online as follows:
Teach Yourself Information Technology
Information Services provides a range of Computer Based Training (CBT) materials for use by undergraduates and postgraduates. The main benefits of CBT are that you can teach yourself new applications at your own pace. Most of the CBT materials available locally at QUB are for PC compatible computers and cover such packages as:
Computing Terminology, Windows, Word (word processing) Access (database), Excel (spreadsheet) and Internet.
Students can access the Training materials in any of the Student Computer Centres. For further information access Student Computing Services .
