7. Is there help with my English?
The University has an excellent English Language Support Unit (ELSU). A range of English Language, English Writing and Study Skills courses is currently available or can be provided subject to appropriate demand. Special English Language Summer Schools are also provided.
Every full-time international student at Queen's is entitled to attend a semester-long English Language course in the English Language Support Unit, which normally comprises around two hours per week. International Students are initially given a free test of language competence at the beginning of the first semester and then allocated to a beginners, intermediate or advanced course as appropriate.
Pre-sessional courses of three, six or twelve weeks are also available for students who need to improve their English before commencing their academic studies. Longer courses can also be arranged.
Details of the costs can be obtained from the English Language Support Unit (ELSU) (Int Tel: +44 28 9097 5373) or via the International Office.

12. Can I work in Northern Ireland with my current nursing qualification?
The School of Nursing does not currently offer an adaptation programme for international nurses wishing to register and practice in the United Kingdom. Any interested person who wishes to work as a nurse in the UK will require permanent registration with the Nursing & Midwifery Council (NMC). This usually requires a 6 month supervised placement in a British hospital or approved healthcare organisation. Any nurse applying for permanent registration must do so directly to the NMC. It is the responsibility of the individual nurse to arrange their own practice placement. For further information please contact the NMC Overseas Registration Department (Int Tel: +44 020 7333 9333) or visit the NMC website: www.nmc-uk.org.
