Queen's visit to Uganda in September 2006
Following an invitation by Dr Ian Clarke and Dr Rory Wilson, Professor Orr and Dr Kathy Rowe travelled to Kampala Uganda.
They visited Kampala International Hospital run by Dr Clarke and the remote Kuwiko hospital run by Dr Wilson.
It was a very challenging visit, with doctors and nurses working with very few resources particularly in Kuwiko. HIV/AIDS is a huge problem and many children, cared for by hospital staff are orphans.

Gathering Goods for Uganda
A focus of the Community Outreach Group is international aid. The School of Nursing and Midwifery has established links with Uganda.
Dr Kathy Rowe and Professor Orr visited there earlier in 2006 and were able to highlight some of their needs to the group. In response the group appealed for the requested items of medical supplies, textbooks and infant clothing from members of staff and students. We were overwhelmed by the very generous response which amounted to a van load of good quality items arriving in Uganda around Christmas time.
Earlier in 2006, we also collected donated items including toiletries, shoes and stationary. These were sent to Ekwendeni, Malawi at the request of Mphatso Nguluwe who was a post graduate student at Queen's University Belfast in the School of Nursing and Midwifery. Mphatso has returned to take up a Nursing Officer post there.
Once again a big thank you to all who contributed to these very worthwhile causes.
