Psychological Trauma Studies
The School of Nursing and Midwifery has, for a number of years, worked in partnership with the WAVE Trauma Centre (WAVE). WAVE is a grass roots, cross community, voluntary organisation formed in 1991 to support adults, children and young people traumatized as a result of the ‘Troubles’ in Northern Ireland. Its overall aim is to offer care and support to anyone bereaved or traumatised through the violence, irrespective of religious, cultural or political belief (http://www.wavetraumacentre.org.uk/about, 2010). The School worked with WAVE to plan an undergraduate Diploma in Psychological Trauma Studies and this course has been part of the School’s educational portfolio since 2003. Since the provision of the Diploma course, the need for a further menu of courses became apparent and from 2007, a revalidated Diploma and BSc (Hons) Trauma Studies has been available.
A new four year part time BSc(Hons)Psychological Trauma Studies is now available. Some of the modules included in the BSc(Hons) Psychological Trauma Studies are ‘Introduction to trauma’, ‘Transition from Victimhood’, Trauma and Addiction, ‘Research methodologies’ and ‘Use of Storytelling in dealing with a Traumatic past’.
Applications for the BSc (Hons) Psychological Trauma Studies are now closed.
