Teachers and Careers Advisors
The School of Nursing and Midwifery at Queen’s University, Belfast has been reviewing its recruitment and selection processes and has decided that it will no longer be holding an annual update briefing session for teachers and career’s advisers. Whilst of some value, the annual update did not address the need to communicate any immediate required changes in a timely manner, nor did it meet the needs of teachers and careers advisers from outside Northern Ireland.
In its place, the School has decided to dedicate this section of its website to teachers and careers advisers. Information relating to the entry requirements and the application process will be available and updated via this site. We hope that you will find this new website section for teachers and careers advisers helpful and informative and would welcome your feedback on its content.
Changes for entry to the academic year 2010/11 and beyond
From September 2010, the Diploma in Nursing Sciences will no longer be offered to students. All Undergraduate Nursing Sciences students will enrol for a BSc (Hons) Degree programme from September 2010 onwards.
- From September 2011, it is anticipated that all Branches of Nursing will commence in September 2011, however depending on the number of DHSSPS commissioned places, Adult Nursing may also be offered in February 2012. There has been a reduction of approximately 10 percent in the number of Department of Health, Social Services and Public Safety (DHSSPS) funded places for adult nursing students in 2010/2011. It is anticipated that a further reduction in funded places may be announced for entry in 2011/12.
- Entry onto the 3 year BSc (Hons) Nursing Sciences and BSc (Hons) Midwifery programmes will be advertised in the press and online on Tuesday 2 November 2010. This is two months earlier for Midwifery programmes than in previous years. Application Forms and guidance notes will be available for prospective students to download and complete. The closing dates for both the Nursing and the Midwifery Undergraduate Degree programmes will be 4pm on Friday 7 January 2011.
