Claire’s Award for Children’s Nursing
The School of Nursing and Midwifery invites applications from paediatric nurses for Claire’s Award for Children’s Nursing.
This award is a one-off pledged gift for a paediatric nurse to conduct a small research project, preferably within the area of paediatric intensive care, to aid both the individual recipient’s career development and the development of paediatric nursing research. Applications should be lodged by 4pm on Monday 4 April 2011.

The Marcia Mackie Studentship
The School invites applications for The Marcia Mackie Studentship 2010-2011.
The Marcia Mackie Studentship was established in 1996 by The Benevolent Fund for Nurses in Northern Ireland to commemorate the contribution to the nursing profession made by Mrs. Marcia Mackie CBE, who had been Chair of the NI Hospitals Authority and Chair of the Benevolent Fund.
The purpose of the fund is to promote research within Nursing and Midwifery by providing financial assistance to the School’s PhD Students (part-time or full-time).

HSC Innovations Technology Development Fund
HSC Innovations is pleased to announce the availability of a Technology Development Fund to support the development of new healthcare technologies within Health and Social Care (HSC) organisations in Northern Ireland.
The fund is available to all HSC employees and may be used to support the costs associated with progressing new healthcare products, for example securing intellectual property protection, manufacturing prototypes, obtaining detailed market research or conducting bench and clinical studies. Up to £25,000 may be awarded to any one technology.

Funding opportunities with the SDO
The NIHR Service Delivery and Organisation (SDO) programme improves health outcomes for people by: commissioning research evidence that improves practice in relation to the organisation and delivery of healthcare; and building research capability and capacity to carry out research amongst those who manage, organise and deliver services and to improve their understanding of the research literature and how to use research evidence.
Research utilisation and knowledge mobilisation by healthcare managers (Ref: KM259)
The intention of this call is to:
· add to the evidence base on research utilisation and knowledge mobilisation by healthcare managers
· improve the effectiveness of managerial behaviour and decision-making through better use of relevant research
· promote increased involvement between the academic community of researchers and the practice community of healthcare managers

Responsive funding in the NIHR SDO programme (Ref: SDO1001)
The intention of this call is to produce:
· Follow-on studies to existing SDO research (on completed SDO work where investigators wish to develop or extend results)
· Evidence synthesis (which draw on past primary research within the SDO programme and/or on research funded elsewhere)
· Scoping reviews for future research needs (aimed at identifying and tackling major topic areas of future research need relevant to the SDO programme and its mission)
