Qualifications
PhD in Neuropsychology; BSc in Psychology, MRC/R&D fellowship in Health Services Research, Postgraduate certificate in Health Economics University of Aberdeen.
Research Interests
Midwifery care in high risk obstetric populations, Health inequalities, neonatal intensive care and prenatal screening.
Current Research Activity
Perinatal Ireland Ultrasound Research Consortium (funded by HRB)
Ongoing study into neonatal intensive care (Neonatal Intensive Care Outcomes and Evaluation Project with Jenkins & McCall; funded; started 2003-to date). Includes a three year follow up of late preterm infants.
Prospective study of planned caesarean sections (multi-professional regional audit; funded; 2005-07)
Systematic reviews (with McGaughey & Moutray; Blackwood; funded; 2004-06; 2006-08 respectively).
An interactive DVD to increase awareness of the reproductive health issues and preconception care in women with Diabetes: Design, development, pilot and evaluation with Dr Valerie Holmes Dr R Harper (Ulster Hospital Dundonald) and Dr D McCance (Royal Group of Hospitals). Funded by Diabetes UK (£202,372).
Ready to Reproduce? Teenage Men’s Attitudes and Decision Making in relation to unplanned pregnancy (with Dr Maria Lohan, Dr. Peter O’Halloran, and Dr. Abbey Hyde (UCD)) Funded by The Crisis Pregnancy Agency (IRL) December 2007-June 2009) (£87,327) Developed in collaboration with Prof. John T. Condon, Department of Psychiatry and Dr. Carolyn Corkindale, Department of Sociology, Flinders University, South Australia.
HIV and Reproduction 2007-2010 A phenomenological study which aims to develop an understanding of the lived experience of individuals (men and women) who are affected by HIV in relation to reproductive decision-making and to explore their pregnancy and childbirth trajectory (with Carmel Kelly (PhD candidate), Dr Maria Lohan and Dr Dale Spence; funded by School of Nursing and Midwifery QUB external fellowship 2007).
