Undergraduate

To become eligible for a place on one of our undergraduate courses you must complete the following four steps;

1: UCAS Application

If you wish to make an application for admission to any of our full-time undergraduate courses then you must use the Universities and Colleges Admissions Service (UCAS). Full information can be obtained from the UCAS website at www.ucas.ac.uk/apply.

2: Access NI Check

All of our undergraduate Nursing and Midwifery programmes involve activity with children and adults, which falls within the definition of ‘Regulated Activity’, as defined by the Protection of Freedoms Act. Candidates to these programmes must undergo an enhanced level criminal history check which is processed by AccessNI, the Department of Justice’s disclosure service. Once a check has been completed AccessNI will provide an Enhanced Disclosure Certificate (EDC), which contains details of any spent and unspent convictions, as well as any cautions, reprimands and warnings recorded by the police centrally. It also indicates if there are no such matters on record. Enhanced Disclosure Certificates may also contain non-conviction information from police records which a Chief Police Officer thinks may be relevant to the post applied for (soft/police intelligence).

EDCs also contain the results of checks of either or both of the following lists:

  • The Children’s Barred List
  • The Adults’ Barred List

Candidates whose criminal history is incompatible with a career in Nursing or Midwifery may be excluded from the programmes. However, the disclosure of a criminal conviction or ‘soft intelligence’ may not necessarily prevent you from securing a place on the programme. Please note that if you appear on the barred lists it is an offence for you to engage in, or seek to engage in, regulated activity.

Any information received will be treated confidentially, in compliance with AccessNI’s Code of Practice, in line with the relevant University policies and in line with Data Protection principles.

More information is available from Access NI at: http://www.nidirect.gov.uk/accessni

3: Payment For Check

There is a charge of £30 for the Enhanced Disclosure Check and payment to cover this cost must be made at the same time. Please go the following website (https://knock.qub.ac.uk/ecommerce/nuraccess/index.php) where you will find guidance on how to make this payment electronically. No other payment method is accepted.”

4: Transcript of Training Request

Nurses who completed their training prior to 1st September 1997 should contact the Nursing and Midwifery Council for their transcripts. To access the services, please log in here.
