Brendan Gilmore graduated with a BSc (Hons) in Pharmacy from the Queen's University Belfast in 1999. He successfully completed his Pre-registration training in community pharmacy practice and registered with the Pharmaceutical Society of N. Ireland. In 2000, he returned to the School of Pharmacy to undertake a PhD in Biomedicinal Chemistry under the supervision of Prof Brian Walker. He graduated in 2004 and was appointed to the position of Postdoctoral Research Fellow within the Biomolecular Sciences Group. In July 2004, Brendan was appointed to a Lectureship in Pharmaceutics, where he joins the Drug Delivery and Biomaterials Research Group.
Dr Gilmore's research is centred on the design and synthesis of novel inhibitors of bacterial proteases as potential anti-biofilm agents and the design of novel biomaterials for 'smart' protease-activated drug release. In addition, Brendan has interests in the profiling of serine proteases involved in bacterial virulence using active-site directed inhibitor probes.
