Dr. Malcolm was originally appointed to the school in 1997 to supervise the research activities within the Pharmaceutical Formulation Research Unit (PFRU), a particularly successful industry/university collaborative project funded by the IRTU. The research has resulted in the development of a number of patented transdermal, topical and intravaginal drug delivery systems which are to be commercialised soon. In 2000, Dr. Malcolm was appointed to a lectureship in the Drug Delivery Programme at the School of Pharmacy, QUB. In addition to his supervisory role in the ongoing research within the PFRU, his current research projects within the field of controlled drug delivery include the development of a silicone intravaginal ring for the prevention of AIDS and other sexually transmitted diseases, and stereoselective drug delivery.
