David Keir Building

The School of Planning, Architecture and Civil Engineering has a strong international profile in both research and teaching. It brings together three prominent education disciplines areas, Planning, Architecture and Civil Engineering, and four internationally recognised interdisciplinary research centres, Architecture and Construction Management, Environmental Engineering Research Centre, Centre for Built Environment Research and the Institute of Spatial and Environmental Planning.

People

There are currently around 60 academic staff (Professors, Readers, Senior Lecturers and Lecturers) in the School supported by a School Manager and a team of researchers, administrative, computing and technical staff. 

Facilities

The School’s teaching and research facilities include a wide range of lecture rooms, design studios, and state-of-the-art computer and engineering laboratories. 

The School has benefited from significant inward investment from industry, research councils and government.  In addition to allowing the acquisition of up-to-date high specification equipment it has also contributed to the creation of laboratories such as Environmental Tracers laboratories, Hydrogeology and Isotope Biochemistry laboratory, Material Testing laboratory, Model and Joinery workshops, etc. 

The School also boasts a generous provision of purpose built modern design studios and computing facilities.
