Civil Engineering at Queen's continues to build on the strong position achieved in previous Research Assesment Exercises and is now ranked 8th in the UK with 75% of its research deemed to be world leading or internationally excellent.

Environmental Engineering Research Centre

This centre is inherently interdisciplinary with staff backgrounds in Civil Engineering and Environmental/Earth Science providing engineering approaches to key environmental and sustainability issues. Two over-arching themes drive research in this centre, Marine Renewable Energy (MRE) and Subsurface Systems & Engineering (SSE). The centre is also closely affiliated with the university wide Institute for a Sustainable World (ISW).
