Life at the School

Queen's University is unique. Few other Universities across the world combine international recognition for research and national recognition for innovation in the curriculum with the student-centred ethos and leadership role in the community which are the hallmarks of Queen’s.

Founded in 1845 as Queen's College, one of three established in Ireland by Queen Victoria (the others being at Cork and Galway), it became a University in its own right in 1908.

A broadly-based, research-driven University with a dynamic world-class research and education portfolio and strong international connections, Queen’s is currently implementing an ambitious Vision for the Future.

Belfast, the capital city of Northern Ireland, is now considered one of the most distinctive and happening cities in the UK with a thriving student and entertainment scene that is second to none.

The Queen’s campus is located in south Belfast, only a 15 minute walk from Belfast City Centre, beside the lovely surroundings of Botanic Gardens and the Ulster Museum.

Due to the University’s central location and its unique position in Belfast life, Queen’s is at the hub of social and cultural life in the city.  You are sure to receive a warm welcome as you settle into student life in this lively, fascinating and hard-working city.
