Philosophy Society

The Philosophy Society at QUB, formally known as Academia Philosophorum, is a society founded and run by philosophy students at QUB. It is comprised of both undergraduate and postgraduate students, but focuses on the need to get undergraduates involved in philosophical debates of interest to contemporary philosophers. To that end, the Society tries to hold meetings at least once a month at which a member or invited speaker will present a paper on a philosophical topic of his or her choice, followed by a discussion and a wine reception.

The Philosophy Society believes in the eternal value of a classical education steeped in the arts and humanities. The Philosophy Society does not prize the pursuit of either wisdom or knowledge as simply a means to some technical end, but sees that pursuit as a goal in itself and something to be celebrated. To that end several members of the Philosophy Society are active in student politics and are engaged in campaigning for greater recognition of humanities based subjects.

For a schedule of events, please visit our Facebook page:

For further questions, or if interested in the Society and its activities, please contact a member of the committee at Academia.Philosophorum@qub.ac.uk.

We hope to see you at one of our events!
