Research

My research is a study of the political changes that the Irish Republican movement has undergone since the end of the 1956-62 "Border Campaign" and the factional splits that have resulted directly or indirectly from these changes. As part of this, the study will examine the so-called marginal republican groups, which have rarely been considered in modern studies of Irish republicanism. The project will also consider the effects of the political changes on Irish America as well as the Protestant working class in Northern Ireland, particularly in light of the left-wing political analyses offered by many in these "marginal" republican groups and intends to consider debates on the "true" republican ideals offered by each group proclaiming themselves to be republican.
