Areas of Research

My research interest at present, broadly, involves examining how political and economic structures have been shaped, justified and criticised using philosophical, psychological and biological conceptions of human well-being. My current work seeks to engage with the way in which materialistic conceptions of well-being have been contested by humanistic psychologists such as Erich Fromm and Abraham Maslow, exploring what the social, political and economic implications might be if we were to return to an understanding of 'wealth' as 'well-being'. More generally, I am interested in the theory and practice of anarchistic forms of organisation, contemporary social theory, ecologism, feminism, cultural and media theory, utopianism, and the so-called 'anti-globalisation' movements.
