Teaching Areas
I currently lecture and give tutorials in the areas of comparative European politics and research methods. At postgraduate level, I contribute environmental and energy lectures to the MA module on European Governance and the MSc course on Leadership in Sustainable Development. I aim to run a new third year course on ‘Climate Change: Politics, Policies and Governance’.
Research Interests
Main research areas: Environmental planning and governance; institutions and governance of climate change; environmental conflicts and social movements; sustainable development; Europeanization; European comparative politics; French politics and society.
My previous work focused on NGOs and Europeanization in the area of sustainable policy-making. Currently, I am focusing on energy policy and governance in the EU as a new appointee and research associate of the Institute for Sustainable World. In particular, I recently conducted research in France on the proliferation of waste-to-energy and nuclear plants as low carbon policy solutions.
I am heavily involved in two research strands. Firstly, I participate in collaborative research as part of the UACES CRN on Energy and Sustainability in the EU. I am secondly an active member of an ESRC project called InCluESV (focusing on the politics of nuclear power). In addition, I am a named participant in several collaborative international research bids in a variety of sustainability research areas. I am also an associate member of the European Sustainable Development Network (ESDN).
I have previously held a full time lectureship at Trinity College Dublin and a brief research position at Leeds University.
PhD/Research Supervision
I am happy to supervise PhD or postgraduate students in any area of energy politics. I particularly encourage proposals in three broad research areas: policy and governance; the politics of climate change; resource conflicts and social movements. I also encourage any such proposals examining international, European, national or local dimensions.
